Tech Entrepreneur’s Missing 16-Year-Old Child Located by Police: A Case of Gratitude and Community Support Samantha Johnson, April 29, 2024 Mint Butterfield, a 16-year-old child of Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake, the founders of Flickr and Slack, has been found safe by California police after being missing for a week. Their parents were relieved to have their child back home, and expressed gratitude for the support and assistance received from family, friends, volunteers, and strangers that helped in locating Mint. Mint uses they/them pronouns and is also the stepchild of Jyri Engestrom, another tech founder. Their disappearance was classified as a “voluntary-missing juvenile” due to a past suicide attempt. Despite taking a suitcase and leaving a note, Mint did not have access to a car or a phone during their absence. The collaborative effort of all those involved ultimately led to Mint’s safe return, bringing relief to all involved. The family’s ties to the tech industry are further solidified by Jyri Engestrom’s own status as a tech founder. Business
