Revamped Victorian Terrace House in Fulham Showcases the Benefits of Passivhaus Retrofits

A recently renovated five-bedroom Victorian terraced house in Fulham is currently on the market for £3.5 million, showcasing the power of retrofits to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs. The owners worked closely with Hudson Architects to incorporate Passivhaus technology into the design, making the three-story house on Cloncurry Street airtight and highly insulated.

The retrofit included a range of features like air filtering, a heat recovery system, and underfloor heating that were designed to save money on bills for the new owner. The interior of the house has been upgraded while preserving period details, adding modern touches such as herringbone wood flooring and bespoke joinery in the bedrooms.

With millions of drafty homes in the UK, retrofits are essential for reducing energy consumption and costs. Former net zero tsar Chris Skidmore has highlighted the importance of improving home insulation as a way to save money and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The Fulham house serves as an excellent example of how older properties can be successfully retrofitted to become energy efficient while still retaining their character.

Savills Fulham head Emma Stead expects interest from families looking for a more sustainable living space, highlighting that retrofits are becoming increasingly important in the current climate change era. With its unique blend of old charm and modern innovations, this eco-conscious home is sure to attract attention from potential buyers who want to live sustainably without compromising on style or comfort.
